Velocity dispersion is a statistical quantity that measures the statistical dispersion of radial velocities of stars in a cluster about the mean radial velocity in that cluster.

The descending arpeggio phrase is taken after one of Rebeca Mauleon-Santana's "Latin pianist" software tracks.

Track made on Ableton Live 9 following reading a bit on the Mass-velocity dispersion relations of galaxies, how they relate to early-type galaxies' metallicity and how they may point at interactions w/ the dark matter "halos" that surrounds them. (cf. http://arxiv.org/abs/1502.03449 and wikipedia>Tully-Fisher relation)

The velocity dispersion of clusters such as globular clusters, bulgy and other types of galaxies is used in one technique (alongside spectroscopic analysis) of determining their distance and mass. It may also provide a pointer to the effect of dark matter that surrounds such clusters.
